The need for responsibly sourced coal for non-energy industry

Posted on 26th May 2022 at 11:51am

Thanks to the Association of British Mining Equipment Companies (ABMEC) for arranging a very interesting tour of Aberpergwm Mine. With the current interest around Critical Minerals in the UK it is essential that we revisit the British relationship with coal. Given that the only sources of comparable high-grade anthracite coal are in Ukraine, Russa, and China, responsible mining of this essential mineral in Britain for non-energy based industries should be part of the country’s agenda.

Importantly, acknowledging the need for such minerals under the context of providing resources for many other downstream industries does not in any way diminish or detract from need to act responsibly toward the environment and move towards more sustainable energy resources.
